Son of Habiganj now Leicester City’s Hamza

When the 19-year-old Hamza entered the field as replacement of Wilfred Ndidi, Commentator uttered the name of Bangladesh as his origin.


With this, Hamza became the first Bangladeshi origin footballer who played in the English League Cup.

His debut was also remarkable as his club Leicester City thrashed Liverpool by 2-0 goals.


Hamza is of mixed Caribbean and Bangladeshi descent. His mother is from Habiganj in Bangladesh.


His father Dewan Murshid Chowdhury hailed from Dewanbari of Snanghat village under Bahubal upazila of the district. His mother is Rafia Dewan Chowdhury, according to one of his cousins who claimed anonymity.


He said Hamza’s mother is also a Bangladeshi origin. She firstly tied knot with a Caribbean. Later, she married her relative Dewan Murshid Chowdhury after she got divorced from the Caribbean. Since Hamza is staying with his mother Rafia.


Sources said Hamza visits Bangladesh as his mother stays at their Habiganj home for almost two months every year.


However, Hamza was born in Loughborough of United Kingdom on October 1, 1997.


Dewanbari of Bahubal upazila is a popular name accross the Habiganj which is known to all walks of people of the district.
